Lighting and sound equipment plays a huge part in specialist sensory installations, creating different special needs solutions from calming atmospheres to stimulating experiences. One of Premier Solutions aqua sensory installation projects was completed during lockdown for the Scarborough Disabled swimming group and featured 17 of the LEDJ Spectra Flood Q15 exterior fixtures.

Premier Solutions are specialists in the supply and installation of interactive multi-sensory equipment for hydrotherapy swimming pools, sensory rooms and calming rooms, they also provide professional stage lighting, audio systems and portable staging for various sectors including education. This particular installation was done at the Scarborough Sports Village, where 12 of the Spectra Flood Q15’s were used to light up the pool basin in the training pool, with a further 5 lighting up a small section of the main pool, offering a great sensory space for the community.

Colour mixing lighting is a great way of bringing a whole new dimension to an otherwise ordinary pool and the compact yet sleek Q15 was the perfect choice. Not only is the fixture IP65 rated, the 45° beam angle smoothly washes in a rainbow of rich saturated hues from its 15 x 5W quad-colour LEDs (RGBW). The Q series exterior fixtures also come in a slender batten with 16 x 5W LEDs or a smaller flood featuring 6 x 5W LEDs.

Funding for the specialist aqua sensory equipment was mainly provided by Sirius Minerals Foundation, who also enabled them to install state of the art; image projectors, colour changing lights, interactive floating buttons, moving image projectors, apply specialist window film and a specialist control system to enable the Swim Teachers to create a sensory environment to suit every activity. Other funders included: The Proundfoot Group, Scarborough and Locals Together (SALT), Scarborough Buffs, Scarborough 41 Club and many others.

The project is in partnership with Everyone Active and Scarborough Borough Council to ensure as many local residents can benefit from the equipment as possible, particularly, those who many not normally attend general swim sessions. We hope people who visit the Scarborough Sports Village enjoy the new installation by Premier Solutions for years to come.
